Emergency alerts are being sent to millions of phones as part of a nationwide test.

Devices across the country will vibrate and make a siren for roughly 10 seconds as part of the test.

The alerts are designed to alert the public to an emergency situation where is an imminent danger, such as a terror attack or extreme weather event.

They will go off around 3pm on Sunday, September 7.

But it's unclear exactly how many phones will receive the alert following previous teething problems.
