LINCOLNVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – A treasured bell at a historic Lincolnville church will soon ring again.

The Lincolnville Preservation and Historical Society will ceremoniously reinstall a restored 147-year-old church bell at Ebenezer AME Church on Friday morning.

According to historians, the #6 Bell was originally installed in 1887 when the church was first constructed and has long stood as a symbol of unity and resilience in the post-Civil War era.

The bell was manufactured in 1863 by Rumsey & Co. in Seneca Falls, New York, and placed in the church’s tower by Cameron B. Charleston, marking a new chapter for the African American community in Lincolnville.

After nearly 147 years of service, the bell was gently removed in April of this year to undergo its first-ever restoration.
