NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - In the heart of North Charleston's Liberty Hill, a piece of history that shaped the community, the Louie Tenement, will soon be honored.

For families in Liberty Hill, the Louie Tenement is part of their story, and a new state historical marker is honoring the role it has played in building the neighborhood.

"This is a historical place, Liberty Hill is 154 years old" said Condida Joy, a descendant of Louis Joseph.

President of Liberty Hill Historic & Genealogical Society, Hester McFaddsen, explained the community needed the marker as a message to this generation and the coming generation. "There was a housing complex that provided a haven for residents" said McFaddsen.
