MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (PIX11) – The NYPD is responding to an attempted gas station robbery in Mount Vernon on Friday, according to city officials.

Police believe shots may have been fired during the incident on Mount Vernon Avenue. No injuries have been reported.

Mount Vernon officials said Metro-North service through Mount Vernon West and East stations has been suspended to New York City. Residents are encouraged to avoid Mount Vernon and Lincoln avenues until further notice.

A large police presence can be seen in the neighborhood.
