CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — As some students in Cranston head back to class Friday, the district is focusing on academic success, innovation, and upgrades to school facilities.

Students in kindergarten, first, sixth and ninth grade returned on Thursday, but the rest of the grades went back Friday morning.

District leaders told 12 News they're working to make sure the classrooms and curriculum are ready, including acknowledging the use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.

"I think teaching both students and staff how to use AI as tools and use it responsibly, but still allow for students to produce their own work," Superintendent Jeannine Nota-Masse said.
