ONTARIO, Oregon — The Ontario City Council voted 4-2 Tuesday to disband the city's Diversity Advisory Committee.
"I felt like we were a little bit blindsided," said Kathie Collins, who joined the committee in April. "The agenda didn't say there was going to be a vote on this. At the same time, I understand why the council voted as they did; they're afraid."
Mayor Debbie Folden said she was primarily worried about jeopardizing federal grant opportunities if the city kept DEI programs that may conflict with President Trump's executive orders.
"I was literally scared," Folden said. "I trust President Trump's mandates. I believe that he fiercely will honor them, and I truly feel like if he says he's going to do something, he's going to follow through. "
She said it was a tough decision.
