It’s Tracey Clarke’s 15th year designing the costumes for the West Indian American Day Parade.

“It’s my passion, I'm really passionate about it. I just love the way people embrace our culture,” Clarke, the lead designer of Sesame Flyers International, told NY1.

In the basement of her shop, a master wire bender and a young protégé, among others, work on intricate designs.

Kenneth Antoine has done this kind of work for more than 40 years. He loves how these costumes showcase his culture.

“You can show and duplicate what your country is, what it has, what it represents,” he told NY1.

Working alongside him is budding designer 14-year-old Khristian Wolfe. Like Antoine, Wolfe used to pick up pieces from the side of Carnival and make his own designs.
