An insurance agent from Birmingham has pleaded to fraud charges, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said.

Todd Bernstein, 67, entered a plea of no contest on Thursday in Oakland County Circuit Court to four counts of insurance fraud, each a 4-year felony, officials said. In Michigan, courts treat no-contest pleas the same as guilty ones.

Bernstein is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 16.

As part of a plea agreement, the defendant has paid $107,918.13 in restitution and agreed to forfeit his insurance license, according to the attorney general's office.

Bernstein's attorney, Mark Kriger, said the agreement calls for his client to be sentenced to probation.
