Detroit police have arrested the person they think shot and wounded a 15-year-old girl at a park on Detroit's east side on Wednesday.
"Yesterday, officers of the 9th Precinct apprehended who we believe to be our shooter, a 13-year-old male," Police Capt. John Stewart said Friday. "We were also able to identify the 13-year-old and (have determined that he and) the 15-year-old victim are from the same household."
He made the remarks during a briefing outside police headquarters to update the media about the investigation into the incident.
The captain explained that the suspect is the victim's younger brother. He added that investigators believe the shooting was accidental.
Detectives are working to find out who owns the gun and where the boy got it, the captain said.
