Police swarm Lower Precinct in Coventry after reports of 'man with knife'

A man has been arrested after being found in possession of a knife in Coventry . He was detained in the city centre today (August 29).

Police were called to Lower Precinct at around 11.20am this morning. Shoppers had reported a man carrying a knife near Sports Direct.

Officers quickly detained a man in his 20s. He was arrested and remains in custody this afternoon (August 29).

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to Lower Precinct in Coventry around 11.20am this morning (August 29) to reports of a man with a knife. Officers were quickly on the scene, and a man in his 20s was detained.

“He was arrested and remains in custody being questioned. Local officers remain in the city centre this afternoon, and we would urge anyone with concerns to speak to us.”
