Workers in Winnipeg are leading the country in returning to the office, with new Statistics Canada data showing the Manitoba capital has the highest share of commuters heading to a physical workplace among the country’s largest cities.
As of May 2025, 89.5% of Winnipeg workers commuted to a job site — the highest rate among Canada’s 15 largest census metropolitan areas.

The report also shows more Winnipeggers are opting for alternatives to driving. Transit use rose to 11.4%, up from 9.4% in 2024 and 8.5% in 2021. Walking and cycling climbed to 6% of commutes, the highest level since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
