GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -This month, the Gainesville community said goodbye to an artistic treasure. Alyn Harris, a local artist loved by many, passed away on August 12, but through her art, her legacy lives on.
“Well, as far as I can remember my mother always talked about drawing in the dirt,” Maddox said through a smile. “because I guess paper wasn’t available or she might have run out of paper because she was excessive when she did her art.”
Harris was born in Gainesville, Florida in 1942. She worked various jobs, including more than 30 years at the University of Florida.
Harris also attended Santa Fe college while working and raising two children. There she cultivated her love of painting, and her art took off.
