Public safety unions are supporting some new and familiar faces for local elections this November, but the police and fire unions are split on their support for Toledo mayor.

This year, Toledo Firefighters Local 92 is endorsing independent candidate Roberto Torres for Toledo mayor. The Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association is backing Democrat incumbent Wade Kapszukiewicz.

Mr. Torres is looking to unseat Mr. Kapszukiewicz, who is hoping to secure a third term. Local activist and retired U.S. Air Force veteran Harold Harris is running as a write-in candidate.

“I am a U.S. Marine Desert Storm veteran;” Mr. Torres said in a statement. “Our core values have always been Honor, Courage and Commitment. We respect our fellow men and women in the Armed Forces, regardless of the branch of service.
