The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have charged a 51-year-old former junior high school principal with sexual exploitation.

In early 2025, it was reported to the police that a female youth had been sexually assaulted by one of her public-school teachers on a number of occasions between 2004 and 2008.

The teacher was then employed as a principal at another school within the same school board after this time frame.

On Wednesday, August 27, 51-year-old Jon Paul David Cooper was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation.

He was released with conditions including not to attend any public swimming area, school, playground, youth shelter or public library.
