WEATHER STORY: Blocking highs make for clear skies as they prevent lows from gaining ground (or is that sky?). Omega blocks are fairly common here and they’re called that because the cloud patterns moving around the edge of the high look like the Greek letter Omega. The block we have this Labor Day weekend is called a Rex Block. That’s a high that sets up north in Canada but blocks lows from advancing south in the U.S. The name has nothing to do with kings. Rex blocks were discovered by meteorologist Daniel Rex. Chances for precipitation will finally come back Tuesday as the Rex Block fades and a cold front swerves through the Northland. Severe storms are not likely but showers and isolated storms are. Behind the front we it will cool down. Normals this week - low 49 and high 69.
