Phoenix police detained a man after National Guard members mistook him for bringing unexploded ordnance to the Papago Park Military Reservation for disposal as a bomb threat.

Security at the base, along with Phoenix officers and members of Luke Air Force Base's explosive ordnance disposal team, responded to the base's entry point at around 4 p.m. on Aug. 28 after staff reported the incident as a "vehicle bomb threat."

"Luke AFB EOD retrieved a projectile from the vehicle later that evening, removing it from the site for proper disposal," Sgt. Sami Hill, a spokesperson for the Arizona National Guard, said.
