Some directors are very comfortable working in a variety of styles and genres and are mostly successful at this. Yet, when other directors attempt to step outside their usual purview, they end up with a flop. This can notably happen when someone used to directing more artsy pieces tries to do something mainstream (i.e., David Lynch’s Dune ), or vice versa (i.e., George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing ).
In this vein, it appears to be time for “art house” director Darren Aronofsky to try his hand at the action-comedy crime film, and what he’s come up with is called Caught Stealing .
