WALTON, Ky. (WXIX) - The man accused of shooting two Boone County Sheriff’s Office deputies before turning the gun on himself has been identified.

Justin Chapman, 39, was identified as the man who shot the deputies late Thursday in Walton, according to the Boone County Coroner’s Office.

The deputies were serving a felony warrant for overdue child support to Chapman at an apartment off Towne Creek Drive.

They arrived at Chapman’s home a little before 9:30 p.m. Thursday, and within 30 minutes, they were met with “heavy gunfire,” explained Major Phillip Ridgell with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

“This is a worst nightmare type of situation,” he said.

They began to run as shots were fired from inside the building, according to video shared with FOX19 NOW.
