ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Students and families in the Rochester City School District gathered today for a back-to-school bash, less than a week before the new school year begins.
The event, at Dr. David and Ruth Anderson Academy School No. 16, provided students with backpacks full of supplies, gently used clothing, and opportunities for free haircuts or braiding to help them prepare for their first full day of school on Thursday.
"With the economy the way it is today, it's a little struggle getting all these things put together before the first day, and I want every child to come in and feel secure, self esteem high, so I make sure they have the things they need. The community appreciates it, they come out, they support, and not just for today, it helps work through the whole year," said
