MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- Come Monday, Sept. 1, the state’s new hands-free driving law aimed at reducing distracted driving will prohibit drivers in South Carolina from holding or using their handheld devices while behind the wheel.
Currently, 31 out of 50 states are already following hands-free driving laws.
Ride-share drivers use their phones while on the job to accept riders, for navigation, and communication. Uber driver Craig Blatter says it doesn’t really affect him much, since the company is already mostly hands-free.
“We have to have our phones mounted, and trust me, big brother knows when we don’t have our phone mounted because we hear about it immediately," he said. "But personally, even If I was not doing this, I would not be utilizing my phone with my hand."
