LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Teachers say some students in Lake Charles do not have essentials like soap, deodorant, and toothpaste at home. City leaders are working to change that.

Retired teacher of over three decades and president of the district Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, Edith Keys, says what he has seen.

“People don’t realize the difficulty children have in today’s world, and they have for years,” Keys said.

The City of Lake Charles is launching a hygiene drive after hearing from educators about the growing needs among students.
