NORTH CAROLINA, USA — AmeriCorps will release all previously withheld funds for jobs and grants supporting western North Carolina’s recovery after Hurricane Helene, Attorney General Jeff Jackson announced Friday .

The federal government informed the court Thursday that the money would be delivered, according to the Attorney General's Office.

In April, WFMY News 2 reported that the North Carolina Attorney General’s office had sued to block cuts to a volunteer program helping in western North Carolina. Dozens of volunteers were pulled off jobs in the mountains due to federal funding cuts. Jackson called the cuts unlawful because the money had already been appropriated by Congress. The volunteers worked for AmeriCorps, which sends volunteers to disaster sites across the country.
