SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The City of South Portland's Parks and Recreation department hosted a clothing swap at the Redbank Community Center on Thursday evening to mark the start of the back-to-school season.

The event is part of an ongoing, monthly-themed swap series designed to reduce waste and offer a no-cost alternative, according to the city.

The back-to-school theme for August called for kids' clothes and sports gear in good condition.

All unclaimed items at the end of events are given to a local organization for those in need.

The next swap's theme is "Getting in a Cozy Fall Mood" and will take place on October 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the South Portland Community Center. The city is asking participants to bring craft supplies, books, puzzles, and movies.
