TOLEDO, Ohio — It’s been one week since 700 workers at the Libbey Glass Plant in north Toledo walked off the job, and the picket line is showing no signs of slowing down.
Employees say they’re striking for a “fair contract” after years of concessions meant to keep the glassmaker afloat. On Wednesday, they were joined by U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Toledo), who told workers the fight at Libbey is part of a much larger national problem.
Chants of “What do we want? A fair contract! When do we want it? Now!” rang out as union representatives accused company leaders of failing to bargain in good faith.
Workers say their entire collective bargaining agreement is at stake, and after giving up millions from their own wages in recent years to keep the company alive, they now feel betrayed.
