MUNFORD, Tenn. (WMC) - A Munford police officer described as “well-liked” by his department has resigned following an internal investigation that may possibly result in criminal charges, according to the police chief.

Chief Randal Baskin says the examination against Officer Josh Byars is ongoing, and no further statements regarding the investigation will be released at this time.

Baskin says the internal review’s findings, which have not yet been publicized, have been turned over to the district attorney’s office for review and consideration of possible charges.

In Friday’s announcement, Baskin described Byars as “well-liked within our department and in the community.”

This summer, Byars, a cancer survivor, represented the Munford Police Department while standing by fellow survivors
