NEWAYGO — The Ludington varsity volleyball team has had an up-and-down start to its season.

On Thursday, the Orioles took a step in the right direction and swept their way through a quad at Newaygo High School. They ended the day 3-0 picking up wins over the Lions (2-1, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19), Hopkins (2-1, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20) and Shelby (2-0, 25-20, 25-21).

Ludington is now 6-5-2 on the season.

The Orioles dominated at the service line and racked up 24 aces. Leah Allen, Saviera Moser, Lilly Slater and Mackenzie Wright each recorded four aces.

Kaia Jones led the Ludington defense with 39 digs. She also tallied three assists and an ace.
