ATLANTA — Twin boys who relocated to the Atlanta area as babies following the devastation from Hurricane Katrina are thankful for those who helped give them a chance to live.

Twenty years ago, the storm impacted the Gulf Coast, triggering catastrophic flooding and claiming nearly 1,400 lives across the south.

In New Orleans, a young mother, Alexandria Wheeler, was desperately searching for baby formula to feed her infant twin boys. Luckily, she and her sons were rescued by retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who led the military's emergency response efforts.

Now, two decades later, that once displaced family is thriving in Atlanta.

The twins, J'Mari and A'mari Reynolds, grew up in metro-Atlanta and graduated from McDonough High School in 2024.
