It was far from a beauty contest, but Wake Forest did get the win in Coach Jake Dickert’s first game.
The Demon Deacons beat the Kennesaw State Owls 10-9 in front of an announced crowd of more than 30,000 at Allegacy Stadium on Friday night.
The Demon Deacons struggled against the Owls, a program that’s been high Division I for just two years. Coach Jerry Mack in his first season with the Owls and was also making his debut and the Owls nearly did enough to steal it.
Thanks to the defense, Dickert got his debut win. And they did it without their best player, running back Demond Claiborne, who was injured early in the game with what appeared to be a rib injury.
