BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Labor Day weekend has officially begun, and a surge of drivers caused strain on Connecticut's roadways Friday evening.
"It's been like this -- you go for five minutes and then you get stuck in traffic again,” said a driver from Rhode Island in Branford.
Drivers traveling on Connecticut highways for Labor Day weekend festivities said traffic caused lengthy delays.
"Just to go to New Haven has taken me over an hour from Clinton, that's a lot,” driver Rita Neal said. “It usually takes about half an hour, 30, 40 minutes."
AAA Northeast said that it's best to hit the roads before noon if traveling this Labor Day weekend. But on Saturday, which is the busiest day, drivers should aim to be on the road by 10 a.m.
