After the government expanded the scheme, more than three million more households will qualify for the Warm Home Discount this year.

The one-time payment knocks £150 off energy bills during the winter months, allowing the money saved to be spent on other things around the expensive Christmas period.

The discount can be applied any time between October and March, though energy companies say most eligible people should have received it by January.
