A 12 year old lad has tragically lost his life after falling from an "apparatus" at a playground in a Cheshire park.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the young boy was pronounced dead at the scene at Wharton Recreation Ground near Ledward Street in Winsford on Friday evening.

The North West Ambulance Service alerted the police, who have now launched an investigation into the incident.

Cheshire Police have informed the child's next of kin and are providing them with support from specialist officers.

The force is also appealing to anyone who was in the area or has information on the "deeply tragic" incident to come forward.
