Middlesbrough’s perfect start to the new season carried into the first international break as Rob Edwards’ half-time substitutes paid dividends in a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at the Riverside.

Tommy Conway’s goal ensured Boro made it four wins from four, equalling Byran Robson’s emphatic start to management on Teesside. They head into the break top of the league after Stoke City were beaten by West Brom.

Conway’s goal came after good connections from half-time subs Sverre Nypan and Matt Targett and, ironically, as Conway looked ready to come off for new boy Kaly Sene. Edwards’ changes once again had a positive impact on Boro getting a result as his dream start on Teesside continued.
