Gilbert’s Sister Cities youth ambassadors returned this summer with stories of friendship, cultural discovery and once-in-a-lifetime experiences in Leshan, China, and Antrim-Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland.

The students, representing several Gilbert high schools, spoke about the warmth of their host families and the opportunities to experience daily life in their sister cities.

Shandiin Harrison, a senior at Mesquite High School, described her time in China.

“The families welcomed us so warmly and all the students as well,” she said. “They really tried to speak English with us and tried to bond with us, and that really made us feel comfortable and welcome.”

Emma Anderson, a senior at Campo Verde High School, said her trip left a deep impression.
