A shooting on Friday involving a Fremont County sheriff's deputy during a welfare check turned barricade incident in Cañon City is under investigation by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, according to a release by the agency Saturday.
The suspect, a 27-year-old man, was armed with a gun, investigators said. Medics took him to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The deputy was not shot but went to the hospital for a medical event and has since been released.
Investigators said they found five explosives in the residence. The Pueblo Metro Bomb Squad determined that the four plastic items and one metal item were inert.
Investigators said they expect to charge the suspect with first-degree assault, menacing and prohibited use of a weapon once he is released from the hospital
