HINESVILLE, Ga. (WSAV) — The City of Hinesville announced that approximately 1,500 gallons of sewer and wastewater were released late Saturday morning.
According to a press release sent by the city, the wastewater release occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at the Fort Stewart Water Pollution Control Plant located at 629 Hero Road.
Plant operators responded to the incident and determined that an excess rainfall of 1.59 inches caused the sewer water to release.
The city also said that due to the rain, "the released wastewater may have reached state waters, resulting in a spill."
