SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) - Verizon Wireless is experiencing a nationwide service outage, with many states, including South Dakota, reporting connection issues.

According to telecommunications data from Downdetector, customers began reporting problems around noon on Saturday. The number of reports peaked around 2:32 p.m., with 22,990 Verizon outages reported.

There were also many outages reported in the Sioux Falls area. Due to the outage, people across the country have no service, with their phones defaulting to SOS mode.

In SOS mode, users can still make emergency calls to 911 by connecting to other carriers, according to Apple.

In 2024 Verizon users experienced a similar widespread outage that surpassed 100,000 outage reports.
