HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) - Deputy Holmes with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a call about a homeless man who had attempted to steal beer from a local store. But what could have ended in an arrest turned into a moment of compassion and understanding.

In a social media post , the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said officers were dispatched to a local store for an attempted theft.

Instead of arresting the man, the department said Deputy Holmes and the store manager “found a better solution,” allowing the man to pay for the items and resolve the matter peacefully.

During the incident, authorities learned that the man, identified as Travis, had walked more than 100 miles and was dealing with health challenges.
