For the first time since Ed Lamb became the head coach in December 2022, the University of Northern Colorado football team won a home football game.

The 17-3 season-opening victory over Division II Chadron State, though, came with a cost Saturday afternoon in front of 4,153 fans at Nottingham Field.

For the second year in a row, UNC lost starting quarterback Peter Costelli. He is out for the year, Lamb said after the game without disclosing the injury.

A redshirt junior from San Pedro, Calif., Costelli was injured on a 15-yard run late in the third quarter and just before the game was stopped for two hours with a weather delay.
