DES MOINES, Iowa -- A shortwave is triggering rain to fall in parts of Iowa at times over Labor Day weekend. There is a line of rain falling along a boundary around the Des Moines metro area on Saturday night.

There is a better chance for more rain to push through the state on Sunday afternoon after 3 p.m. and before 10 p.m. These storms will not be strong to severe.

The heaviest rain is targeting southwest Iowa by early Monday. The pattern isn't going to change until after Tuesday night. A strong cold front sweeps through the state on Wednesday dropping more rain and the temperatures.

The month of August will end with below average highs and this continues through the first week in September.
