Ovarian cancer claimed “one-of-a-kind” Laurie Boulaine.

The Algoma District School Board educator died in August 2013. The mother of four was 51.

“She was just warm and caring,” said friend, and fellow teacher, Jane Vienneau. “Unconditional love.”

Boulaine taught at Laird Central and Etienne Brule and was principal of F.H. Clergue French Immersion.

Vienneau and other “teaching friends” of Boulaine make up Laurie’s Girls, one of six teams registered for the second annual Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope. The fundraiser runs Sept. 7 at Bellevue Park. Ovarian cancer survivor Sharon Vanderburg will speak.

Pledges made to participants such as Vienneau and teammates Donna Petrocco, Linda Kirby and Kristine Oliverio help support ovarian cancer research.
