1/2 Clematis paniculata
As you drive through the countryside, you may notice a rather ornate vine with small white flowers mingling in trees and shrubs. The vine is sweet autumn clematis (Clematis paniculate or Clematis maximonowicziana) . It is a vigorous, late summer blooming vine, native to New Zealand, that is related to the cultivated spring blooming clematis. The hybridized vine is now available as a fall bloomer and is often incorporated into landscapes garden shops providing an added spark of brilliant white color and an unusually sweet gardenia-like scent to our fading late summer bedding plants.
Unlike the spring-blooming clematis, the sweet autumn vine can be almost overly aggressive with twisting petioles and twining stems that quickly spread during the later summer
