Hardin

By Kenneth L. Hardin

For the Salisbury Post

Until recently, I could eat chicken seven days a week and it wouldn’t bother me at all. Yes, I know the stereotype that exists, which falsely claims that Africans in America are somehow predisposed to enjoying the yard bird above other food choices. I’ll happily wear that erroneous label as long as I have some Texas Pete hot sauce close by. My focus and intention is not to offer cultural enlightenment nor any education on the 8,000-year-old domesticated subspecies of the jungle fowl native to Southeast Asia. No, it’s to show how misguided and foul acting some of my skinfolk can be behind this active member of the Gallus domesticus species.
