GOSHEN – Geraldine Schwarz, a resident of Sapphire Nursing Home in Goshen, is celebrating her 100 th birthday on Sunday.

Born on August 31, 1925, in San Antonio, Texas, Schwarz moved to Brooklyn at the age of five and to Goshen eight years later. She graduated from Goshen High School in 1943, where she was a standout student and athlete. Schwarz was the recipient of the Ann Adele Witt award at Goshen High, which honored the top graduating female scholar-athlete.

In 1947, Schwarz married Raymond Schwarz of Goshen. He was Orange County’s first Finance Commissioner from 1970 until his untimely death in 1980 at the age of 54. Geraldine Schwarz has two children and four grandchildren.
