FORT MONTGOMERY – An Army football player rescued a man from a burning vehicle in Fort Montgomery early Sunday morning.

Sophomore safety Larry Pickett and his father, Larry St., ran toward the car despite the downed power lines around it. He then pulled the man from the vehicle and moved him out of harm’s way before it became engulfed in flames. Firefighters responded to the accident and extinguished the fire. The victim of the crash was expected to survive.

“I’m just grateful that we got him out, honestly,” Pickett said on the scene. “When we pulled off, somebody was standing there, and they saw the electric wire. I don’t think they wanted to get him. That could have went totally different for him. I’m just thankful, honestly.”
