The biggest girls’ soccer tournaments arrive when the fall weather starts to chill and Section 9 championships are on the line.

However, as far as tune-ups go, this event has plenty of credibility. Five local teams – John Jay-East Fishkill, Monroe-Woodbury, Mount Academy, Our Lady of Lourdes-Poughkeepsie and Washingtonville – are competing in next weekend’s ninth annual New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports (NYSSCOGS) Hall of Fame tournament at several sites in the Albany area.

“It’s a huge honor to open our season at the tournament,” Lourdes coach Rick Seipp said. “It’s an event that features great competition and honors the legacy of the sport. We are fortunate to be a part of the tournament, and it is a great opportunity to compete.”
