CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — A Battle Creek man is in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash late Saturday night, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) said.

Around 11:05 p.m., deputies were called to a reported hit-and-run involving a pedestrian on North Avenue near East Coolidge Avenue.

According to witness reports, a vehicle headed northbound on North Avenue at a high speed hit a pedestrian who was crossing the street. The driver didn't stop and immediately left the scene.

When deputies arrived, they found a large crowd gathered around the victim, a 33-year-old Battle Creek man, who was unconscious in the road.

Deputies began to provide care until the Pennfield Township Fire Department and a LifeCare Ambulance got to the scene.
