MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — A Muskegon family turned their pain into purpose on Sunday with the first “Walk for Justice” to raise awareness about fentanyl and honor their loved one.

On Aug. 31, 2023, 24-year-old Trevon Burr was found unresponsive after smoking a marijuana blunt laced with fentanyl.

The family said doctors told them that Burr had enough of the drug in his body to kill an elephant. Against the odds, Burr survived, but his family said their lives were forever changed.

Sunday afternoon's walk started at 492 Oak Avenue in Muskegon.

Dozens of family members, friends and neighbors carried signs, wore purple ribbons—the color for fentanyl awareness—and called for justice in Burr’s case.
