CLEVELAND — A 34-year-old Wakeman woman was killed overnight Sunday after losing control of her vehicle and crashing into a utility pole in Erie County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Sarah Gehringer was driving eastbound on Darrow Road just east of Furnace Road in Vermilion Township around 12:18 a.m. when she went too fast while exiting a curve, troopers said. She lost control of her 2003 Dodge Dakota, veered off the left side of the roadway and struck a utility pole and two trees.

Gehringer was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the highway patrol.

Troopers said alcohol and drugs appear to be factors in the crash.
