SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Sweetwater Police Department is warning of a scam alert involving a fake Facebook profile.

SPD said the profile is spreading false information by claiming that permits have been issued for people to collect money at the intersection of Highways 68 and 11.

The department said this information is false, adding that no permit has ever been issued and that no permits will ever be issued for that location.

Anyone trying to solicit money at that intersection is doing so illegally, SPD said.

“We take these scams seriously and will continue to protect our community from fraudulent activity,” the department said.

SPD said anyone who sees the fake profile or post should report it.
