Shawn Fitzsimmons, Chair of the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSC), emphasized the importance of locally elected trustees. He said, “The role of Catholic school trustees is unique and holds a long and rich history of effective representation of parents and the Catholic community at the local level.”

His comments are in response to recent remarks made by Ontario’s Education Minister, Paul Calandra. While at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference, Calandra mentioned the Ministry of Education might take a more active role in local school board governance.
